Home & Business Security Safes
Safes are primarily used to protect valuables from fire or theft. There are several options to choose from. Each option should take into account the valuables you are trying to protect, such as, money, jewelry, tapes, or documents. Another consideration is location and how the safe is anchored, for example; in the wall, in the floor or just on the floor.
Safes come with "Dial in Combinations", "Key Locks", "Electronic Locks", or a combination of both combos and keys.
Safes are generally classified in three main types:
1) Burglary: Burglary safes offer protection against theft. There is very little or no protection against fire. The manufacturer rates the safe as 15, 30, 1 hour against forced entry.
2) Fire: As the name states this safe offers protection against fire with a rating of as little as 30 minutes up to 6 hours. Fires safes offer little protection against theft because of the nature of their construction. Fire Safes DO NOT offer protection for media materials (DVD’s, tapes, CD’s, Disc’s, etc.) A true media safe is what you need for such media materials.
3) Fire/Burglary: These safes offer protection against both fire and burglary.
Safes, as with anything else, require annual maintenance to keep them in good working condition.
Safe combination changes or maintenance should be done by a qualified safe technician to keep your safe in good working condition and trouble free for many years.
